FAQs

You don’t need any specialized tools. You can use headphones or a headset to enhance audio quality, however, using ZOOM Phone through your laptop or mobile device does not require any cumbersome equipment.

Yes! ZOOM supports secure voice calls across all supported SIP devices, desktop, and mobile clients. Zoom Phone supports standards-based encryption using SIP over TLS 1.2 Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) 256-bit algorithm for calls and during phone provisioning sessions. In addition, call media is transported and protected by SRTP with AES-256 bit algorithm for Zoom desktop and mobile clients.

You can request Zoom Phone by submitting a ticket hereYou will receive an email when your Zoom Phone access has been successfully provisioned. After receiving the confirmation email, simply log out and log back into your Zoom client – you will then see the Zoom phone icon on your dashboard. It's as easy as that! 


Downloading instructions for Zoom are as follows:

Mobile Phone Installation: from the Google Play or Apple App Store.

Laptop or Desktop Software Installer: Please download and install from one these locations:

  1. ASU Owned Windows Computer:  Check your Software Center to see if it is available to download and install.
  2. ASU Owned Mac Computer:  Check your Self Service App to see if it is available to download and install.
  3. Zoom Download Site for Windows & Mac: https://asu.zoom.us/support/download.

  5. If you are unable to install the Zoom Desktop App on your ASU Owned computer please contact your Deskside Support for assistance.

The ZOOM phone application can support up to 15 shared lines on the ZOOM phone application.

ASU owns five major prefixes in the Phoenix, AZ metro area. Your ASU phone number may be associated with any one of these five major prefixes. Below are the five major prefixes and the associated five digit extension number that may be assigned to your device.

ASU analog services are still offered for fax machines, wall phones and emergency devices. For those interested in submitting a hardware request to acquire a physical phone for specific personnel or areas, we ask that you please review our KB article regarding monthly fees and equipment specifications. Only specific Cisco phones can be registered to ZOOM phone. These models' numbers are as follows:

  • Cisco CP-7841-K9 version 04 or later,
  • CP-8841-K9,
  • CP-8851-K9.

The model of phone and version can be found on the back or bottom of the phone.

There is an associated fee that will have to be paid by the department. This associated fee is required by Cisco to download and install new firmware onto the Cisco phone so that it is compatible with the ZOOM phone service. The firmware download fee is different for each model of phone. The fees are as follows:

  • Cisco 8841 and Cisco 8851's = $131.94 + tax, per phone
  • Cisco 7841 version 4 or later = $99.46 + tax, per phone.
  • Cisco 7841 version 3 or earlier = not supported


This is a one-time fee from Cisco associated with downloading the new firmware. After the new firmware is downloaded and registered with ZOOM phone the Cisco device will be supported until the Cisco device is announced end of life by Cisco. At the time an end of life announcement is announced by Cisco, a physical ZOOM phone device will need to be requested and paid for by the department if a physical device is still required.

Upon transition to ZOOM Phone, you may have lost your existing voicemail greeting. To set up your new greeting:

  1. Sign in to the Zoom web portal.
  2. In the navigation menu, click Phone, then click Settings.
  3. In Call Handling, click Audio Library.
  4. Click Add Audio.
  5. Record a new greeting or Upload a file.

In the past, community members needed to dial 9 to exit the internal system and make an outbound call. With Zoom Phone, no need to dial 9 - you simply dial the phone number as-is.
