Zoom Accessibility

Keyboard Shortcuts for Zoom

See the list of Zoom keyboard shortcuts that you can use on the Zoom Desktop Client for Windows and Mac. Keyboard shortcuts allow you to navigate the Zoom settings without using your mouse.

With so many ASU live events moving online, it's imperative we make them as accessible as possible. Even if you think no one in the meeting needs Live Transcripts, enable them anyway. In the U.S., 15% of  adults aged 18+ report some trouble hearing (1). In addition,  many people without a hearing impairment benefit from captions, for example, when in a very loud (or quiet) environment or to enhance comprehension.

How to Enable Live Transcripts (Automatic Captions) in Zoom

The Live Transcription feature is only available in the Desktop Zoom app  (install and configure the Zoom App) and isn't yet available for Breakout rooms.

Zoom Hosts

Live Transcripts must be intentionally enabled by the host for each meeting. Always enable Live Transcripts.

Note: Captions will not automatically appear on your participants' screens; instead, they'll now have the option to enable captions for themselves.

To enable captions, click on the CC/Live Transcript button in the Zoom toolbar at the bottom of window and select "Show Subtitle" from the popup. You must do this for each meeting.

If you don't see the CC/Live Transcript button, ask the Zoom host to enable Live Transcript for the meeting.

Automatic captions on Zoom cloud recordings

Transcripts will automatically be added to all recorded Zoom meetings that are saved to the cloud. You can edit these captions, then post the captioned recording to your course or webpage for users who require captions. To take advantage of Zoom automatic captions, see instructions on how to automatically transcribe/caption recordings of meetings.

Please note: Students who are deaf or hard of hearing and registered with the Student Accessibility and Inclusive Learning Services  (was the DRC) are eligible for accommodations beyond automatic and live transcription. The student or SAILS will notify the instructor, and SAILS will arrange for a live CART provider to attend scheduled Zoom session(s). It is the instructor's responsibility to coordinate necessary access to Zoom with their campus' DRC.
