Maintaining good supplier relationships is an important element of optimizing spend and eliminating risk. Managing suppliers applies not just to Product Owners or to Procurement but rather to all parties within Enterprise Technology.

Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) is a practice to establish, monitor and evaluate supplier relationships in order to deliver improvements to supplier performance, lower risks, drive greater levels of innovation and help to deliver competitive advantages to Arizona State University (ASU).

The goals of managing a supplier are to:

  • Leverage best practices.
  • Optimize external spend.
  • Drive innovation and continuous improvement from strategic suppliers.
  • Rationalize suppliers.
  • Manage supplier contract, performance, relationship, and risk.
  • Improve supplier relationships.
  • Evaluate and reduce risk when using suppliers.
  • Support and/or facilitate fast-track supplier engagements

The principles, guidelines, and standards established with good procurement and supplier relationship management will support the oversight of strategic suppliers, increase the transparency and accountability in the delivery of software, technology products and services and will allow for purchases to be made in accordance with all relevant regulatory requirements.
