May Innov8 Session Illustrates Pandemic’s Impact on Cybersecurity

The ever-evolving world of cybersecurity encompasses a multitude of threats and potential ways to respond to them. Navigating the newest methods, like “Zero Trust” architecture and automated threat detection and response, is a high priority for many institutions and corporations. To share his insight into this world of cybersecurity, Peter Romness, Cybersecurity Principle at Cisco Systems, joined peers virtually for the May installment of UTO’s speaker series, Innov8.

Six high-level observations defined his talk:

  • “It’s cheaper to invest before a breach than to clean up after.”

  • “Cybersecurity is risk management.”

  • “You need to cover your bases.”

  • “You don’t get security with compliancy -- you get a baseline.”

  • “You’ll never keep up -- unless you automate.”

  • “There’s a reasonable solution for everyone.”

A part of the talk also addressed the change in the “threat landscape” presented by the COVID-19 pandemic, which has disrupted the flow of nearly every facet of life and business. Romness shared key details in supporting cybersecurity at every level of an organization, and you can watch the full talk now.
